We had an appointment in the town centre (Place de la Bourse) in the morning and decided to see how long it would take to walk there: 40 minutes at a leisurely pace, along the Rhone and crossing the Pont de l’Universite. While we were still there, we received a call from the removal people saying that Matt the driver was getting close. We hadn’t expected him until a few hours later, so we rushed back by metro and tram (25 minutes). The movers had hired two student helpers to unload the van. That clearly wasn’t enough, and the coordination was difficult due to the language barrier between Matt and the helpers. Matt was particularly worried about the piano and the tight turn in our staircase. After quite some back and forth, specialist piano movers were engaged to take it up the next day. We still needed to get it out of the lorry and into the house, and even that turned out to be a major adventure. Eventually we managed to get it out peu a peu. When we were done, the unloading had taken 7 hours in total…
