Piano experts

14 August 2009

The next morning, two well-toned guys turned up, wrapped the piano in blankets, turned it on its short edge and carried it up the stairs. Birgit and I stood and watched in amazement. All the way, the two of them were engaged in a staccato-like monosyllabic exchange which was unintelligible to us, but clearly made the difference between two guys being able to do what the four of us (Matt, the two students and I) couldn’t. Afterwards, they stayed around for a quick cup of coffee, paid us a compliment for our awkward attempts at French smalltalk and went on their way.
